SSIGG Inert Gas Generator

The SSIGG Inert Gas Generator has been redesigned and upgraded. The main application for the machine is to inertise mined areas in underground coal mines in the process of sealing off the completed underground workings to minimise the potential of methane gas explosions.

  • Inert gas generation specifications produced by the SSIGG Inert Gas Generator are:

    • Gas volume – 2,250 m3 per hour, a 25% increase achieved from the redesign
    • Delivery pressure – generally 80kPa
    • Oxygen content (O2) – less than 2%
    • Nitrogen content (N2) – 75%
    • Carbon dioxide (CO2) – 12.5%
    • Gas temperature – ambient + 20 degrees celsius

The SSIGG Inert Gas Generator has proven to operate successfully in highwall applications supplying methane diluting, carbon dioxide rich inert gas to screw auger machines as well as continuous miner type machines.

This inert gas allows safe, uninterrupted mining, regardless of methane gas levels in the coal.

The SSIGG Inert Gas Generator is also capable of inerting large volume sealed areas of underground mines thereby eliminating the risk from any potential explosion hazards that may exist now or in the future.

The SSIGG Inert Gas Generator offers the coal industry:

• A safer working environment for miners working above or below ground
• Continuity of mining operations by being able to inert sealed areas without evacuating a mine because the atmosphere will pass through the explosive range
• Potential to recover coal from areas previously ignored by being able to safely use small diameter auger machines in narrow coal seams with high methane gas levels
• Continuous operation in highwall mining applications with transportable skid mounted units
• Inerting of abandoned workings in longwall or bord and pillar mines with mobile units

Burner

The SSIGG Inert Gas Generator is fitted with a Nuway burner for diesel fuel oil, however methane/propane gas is available as a dual fuel option.

Please note: that due to the low calorific value of Coal Seam Methane Gas, a gas booster will be required. It is also likely the Gas Inspectorate would require a gas leak detection system fitted to the unit.
